Prelim Task – Colour Scheme

I intended to make this for students in the sixth form, making sure it is appropriate for the purpose and appeals to that age group by using colour schemes that attract the target audience. I am also making sure that I have inserted the school logo so that without reading you are aware and have a good idea of the genre of the magazine, which is that of sixth form life. I am also intending to add a variety of images onto my school magazine to ensure that it isn't all just text and the audience are able to stay engaged in what they are reading. The colour scheme that has been used on this magazine is quite formal and bold, suggesting although it is mainly a formal magazine for parents, the use of lots of colour denotes that it is trying to look eye catching to grab the attention of the reader.

Prelim Task - Genre Conventions

Page numbers is a good convention I have researched, so the reader can quickly navigate through the magazine, it can quickly gain the interest of the reader, who are students and parents. The masthead is usually the same for every issue so it is that is easily recognizable. I have researched 3 magazines which include students from the school, looking happy and presentable to reflect that the school is an enjoyable and school respectable school to go to. Reminds the reader of the students in the photo and links to the school’s motto the students doing an action that relates to with the main themes the main article. The language will be formal enough for parents looking at the magazine but still be at a level that younger students can read. 

Prelim Task - Layout

I think that this layout works well, as all the text/subtitles are all clear with out confusing on where features are. I think its good for my target audience as it is more formal but not too formal because it is six form that is it targeted at. I wanted the magazine to have a more grown up feel to it, so it would have more chance to be read by the students.

Prelim Task – Target Audience

My target audience is between the ages 16-18. The magazine is aimed at sixth formers who are in full time education, studying levels and hoping to go to university. The gender in which my magazine is aimed at is male and female. Sixth formers are of both genders therefore I feel it will be more appealing to the readers if it is targeted at both male and female students. The males which will read this magazine enjoy sports such as football and rugby. They are people who work very hard during school in order to achieve their goals of going to university at the end of year 13. My readers are very dedicated to their school work however they balance their social life. They are very keen on extending their education by going onto further education in university or achieving an apprenticeship. The needs of my reader are to be informed of the latest trends and to know what is going on around their school and upcoming events and to learn how to cope with the stresses of sixth form and to feel confident. My audience will use this magazine to gain tips and advice which they may need. They will also use this as they may need time out from their studies to relax. This will not only help them to relax they will also be receiving some sort of information so it is not only entertaining it is also educational.

Prelim Task - Masthead fonts

For my front cover page i decide to use the font called "New Athletic" of  "Dafont". I used this type of font because i think it applies to my target audience, as it isn't that formal, i think it is in between formal and informal. I think it looks a little more grown up than most texts, this might become more appealing to my audience
